  1. Breathing is the most important part.
    1. You can breath through the difficult poses and use your breath to reenergize or relax.
    2. Learning to use and control your pranayama helps you get the most out of your yoga practice.
  2. Get to class early to practice mindfulness.
    1. Arrive 15 minutes early to lay in savasana or begin stretching and practice your breathing.
    2. Focus inward and set your intention for the class, preparing your mind and body for the work ahead.
  1. Be gentle with yourself.
    1. When you first start your yoga practice, it’s normal to feel awkward.
    2. Don’t expect yourself to be able to keep up with the experienced yogi in the front row.
  2. Listen to your body.
    1. Start with basic poses and don’t attempt variations until you are fully aligned and comfortable in the basic pose.
    2. Know your limits – don’t push too hard or you’ll injure yourself.
  3. There’s a lot to learn, so be patient.
    1. It takes a while to loosen up and get the hang of poses.
    2. There are many kinds of yoga, so you may need to try different teachers and classes to find your fit.
