This series of specialized and compassionate classes are designed to support individuals with TBI on their journey to healing and well-being. Inspired by LoveYourBrain Yoga, a research-backed program to improve physical and mental health after concussion and TBI, this series aims to promote physical, mental and emotional rehabilitation through gentle and mindful movement practice. Open to all levels and experience and abilities, the Yoga for TBI Recovery series serves to offer a beacon of hope, helping individuals with TBI rebuild their lives with renewed strength and resilience. Each class in the 4-month series will have a specific theme built on a foundation of breathwork, meditation, gentle yoga movement & community.

- Who is this workshop for? This workshop is for anyone who has experienced a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) or is a caregiver for someone with a TBI and who would like to explore the benefits of yoga with community.
- Do I need to be a member at YogaSix to attend? Absolutely not. This healing series is an extension of our inclusive and accessible yoga community and is being offered to the surrounding community for free and without requirement of membership.
- What is a Traumatic Brain Injury? The CDC defines traumatic brain injury (TBI) as a bump, blow, or jolt to the head that disrupts how the brain works. Concussion is the most common type of TBI, and while it is often described as mild, the experience of a concussion can be far from mild.
- Why yoga for TBI? Yoga has been shown to improve physical and psychological functioning following an acquired brain injury. Those who have practiced reporter a greater sense of calm, mobility/dexterity, and greater awareness of their body.
- How much does it cost to attend? The workshop series is free to attend
- How long are the workshops? Each workshop will be 60 minutes.
- How many spots are there?12 spots will be made available to allow for adequate space and ensuring opportunity for community.
- What will happen if I attend? Each workshop is structured to include an introduction, breathwork, physical yoga practice suitable for all, meditation, and community building.
- What should I wear? Any comfortable clothing that allows movement and a sense of restore.
- Will I need to bring my own props to use? We’ll be able to provide mats, chairs, blankets, boosters and yoga blocks.
- How is the class adapted for the TBI community?
- Movement: Adapts specific poses to prevent dizziness and headaches to support learning and memory
- Environment: Uses soft lighting, no scents, no music to make the yoga class environment welcoming
- Mind: Incorporates strategies to focus attention and release negative thoughts
- Community: Builds community through group discussion with empowering TBI-related themes
- I struggle with balance, will chairs be available and used within class? Practicing all the postures offered is optional, we encourage all participants to practice within their unique abilities. Chairs will be made available and the teacher will guide and cue from/with a chair.
- What if I feel tired in class? We welcome you to find a comfortable, supported posture. The teacher will review some at the beginning of class.
- I can get overwhelmed easily with a lot of sensory input, how will this series of classes experience senses? Regular lighting will be used in the studio and the teacher will not utilize hands on adjustments or essential oils in class. Our goal is to create a benign environment where you can connect directly with breath and body. The studio will not be heated
- I have assistive devices, can they be in the studio with me? Yes, we are limiting class size to ensure there is plenty of space for everyone.
- Will the teacher play music? The space will be feature soft instrumental music.
- I really have a hard time with meditation, how will this be different? Our goal is to create a pathway for all to benefit, we know that sitting quietly for long periods of time can create restlessness and anxiety. Meditations offered will be guided by the teacher and include use of visualizations or activities to find a new pathway between awareness and your mind.
- What are the credentials of the teachers? Those leading this workshop have completed a 200 hour yoga teacher training in addition to specialized training through LoveYourBrain; a non profit focused on making yoga and mindfulness accessible to those having experienced a TBI.
